Frequently Asked Questions

What experience do you have photographing weddings?

It’s been 15 years since I photographed my first wedding. A friend of mine, put his trust in me and I’ve never looked back. A lot has changed since my one camera, one lens initiation. I still look back at those first photographs and feel proud. I have stories to tell from my years of wedding coverage. Stop me during a break and maybe I’ll tell you a few or wait until I retire and read the book.

Are you really a documentary / photojournalistic photographer?

These terms are thrown around a lot in wedding photography circles. Often by photographers looking for easy keywords to attract clients. Only for you to look at their work and see dozens of posed images or static lay flat designs. Take a look at my Instagram feed. It is full of life. Real moments from real weddings.

Are you a full time photographer?

Yes. Have been for a very long time. You should see the grey hairs in my beard. I love this job and give my everything to it. I’m happiest with a camera in my hand and a glass of wine in the other.

Are you familiar with the venue?

I’ve been living and working on the island of Crete for quite some time so have photographed at most of the venues. If by some small chance the place is new to me, I always make an effort to check it out. Living here has the unique advantage of knowing the light and how it falls at different times of the day. This is often more important than the venue.

Do you provide a second shooter?

I work alone in order to maintain consistency. I wish to remain as unobtrusive as possible in order to get the best natural images. I find that having two people milling around draws too much attention. If you are getting ready in different locations, I will split my time between the two of you. During preparations there are natural quiet times and with a little preparation it’s easy to ensure that everything is covered and nothing missed.

Do you take family / group photographs ?

I do. Usually sometime after the ceremony, once a little mingling and sipping of drinks has been completed. I love to get these done quickly, so a short list always helps. Nobody wants to stand in a line grinning. You’re guests and you would much rather be enjoying the scenery and bar.

Do you take photographs of the two of us on our own?

Even the most camera shy couples, appreciate a few well taken photographs of themselves. Just before you take your seats for dinner is usually a great time for this. I usually say ‘grab your glasses’ and lets go for a walk. The time is very relaxed, I would rather capture your personalities than a ‘glamour’ shot. I can photograph, even the most awkward of couples.

Do you take shot lists / specific poses?

Documentary photography is a very fluid style. I very much react to what I see and take the images shown on my site. Having a set list of ‘got to get photos’ breaks this creative flow. Why would you want photos like everyone else’s anyway. It’s your wedding day, make it yours and have photos that retell your story not somebody else’s.

What kind of cameras do you use?

At the moment I use Fujifilm XPRo 3’s. This rangefinder style camera suits my style. It’s great that it doesn’t cover my whole face, so I can see what’s coming and you have the pleasure of seeing my ugly mug not just a lens.

I see you are living in Crete, do you travel for weddings?

I have photographed weddings in the Greek islands, Skiathos, Mykonos to name a few. I’ve also photographed in the Uk. If you would like me to photograph further afield, I am very much travel friendly and don’t take much persuasion to photograph a destination wedding.

How long will it take to receive the photos?

The excitement to see the final result is great. With that in mind I don’t want to keep you waiting. Your photographs will be delivered within 4-6 weeks. I also send you a few sneak peeks a couple of days after the wedding to whet your taste buds and share with friends / family.

Will we have an agreement / contract ?

Short answer, yes. Long answer, yes of course. Everything is written down, so that we both know what you’re paying your well earned money for.

Do you have sweets in your camera bag?

Who told you? It’s a secret stash but it is usually there until my diet / health says otherwise and keeps me ticking over during your wedding day.
